Four professors teach in the Business Information Systems degree programmes.
They are supported by the laboratory engineer, a research assistant and the secretariat. This team is your partner in building your own personal professional future!
In teaching, each professor has their own areas of specialisation.
Programme Director: Prof. Dr. Weiß has been Programme Director of the Master's programme in Information Systems (M.Sc.) since 2019 and, since 2024, has also been Programme Director for the Bachelor's programme in Business Informatics. Professor Weiß teaches and conducts research in the areas of strategic IT management, digital transformation, digital innovation, digital business models, user-centric design and service science (e.g. service-dominant architecture). Prof. Weiß is involved in standardisation for the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN) as a member of NA 043 DIN Standards Committee Information Technology and Applications (NIA) NA 043-02-02 AA Working Committee Competencies in the ICT Industry, as well as a nominated national expert for CEN Technical Committees TC428 Working Groups.
Prof. Dr. Frank Morelli (programme director until 2019 for the Master of Science in Information Systems) teaches and conducts research in the fields of business processes, process mining, business analytics, business intelligence and project management. Professor Morelli has excellent contacts with industry partners, such as the Bosch Prize award, and can draw on a large, long-standing network of Master MiS graduates. He is the contact person for the Department of Business Informatics for the Celonis Centre of Excellence and SAP Next-Gen. He also coordinates the course focus in Business Transformation with SAP specialisation.
Prof. Dr. Thesmann teaches and conducts research in bachelor's and master's programmes in the areas of AI use in companies, web interface design, human-centred design, intelligent user interfaces (his own textbook on user interface design), and artificial intelligence. Professor Thesmann has written the current textbook on introductory business informatics. This textbook serves as the basis for our lectures on introduction to business informatics, which are taught in German for all bachelor's degree programmes at the Business School. We now also offer the lecture in English for some degree programmes at the Business School. Prof. Dr. Thesmann coordinates the profile focus on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in companies, intelligent user interfaces and user interface design with artificial intelligence in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.
Prof. Dr. Manuel Fritz has been Professor of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Data-Driven Business Transformation in the Department of Business Informatics since the winter semester 2025/26. As a data strategist from industry, he combines the areas of data strategy, data products, MLOps and AI lifecycle management with the aim of strategically and scalably anchoring artificial intelligence (AI) in companies. In teaching and research, he addresses the question of how companies can successfully transform themselves by purposefully building data-driven value chains – from data sources to AI models to productive AI solutions. His work focuses on practical AI applications in industry, in particular the integration of (generative) AI into operational processes, governance and transparency in AI systems, and the development of effective data and AI architectures.
As an interdisciplinary programme, MIS draws on a large number of renowned professors from other departments and from the Business School at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, who will enrich and internationalise your studies.
Essentially, all professors want only one thing for you:
That in a few years' time, you will be standing at the front of the CCP (the ‘Stadthalle’ in Pforzheim), beaming with pride, and receiving from the hands of your professors what you have earned in the meantime, semester after semester: your successful degree!
