Business Administration/Business Informatics (B.Sc.), combining information technology and management
Do you want to shape digitalization?
Then study business informatics! With us, you will learn how to shape digitalization in business and society.
Business informatics builds bridges between the corporate and IT worlds. You will learn about and apply both mindsets and their languages. This will enable you to lay the foundation for mutual understanding. You will learn concepts, methods, and tools for the systematic analysis and solution of current and future challenges in companies. As an architect of the future, you will use innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, process mining, robotic process automation, SAP S/4HANA applications, and more to improve business processes. You will deal with new technologies and trends in business informatics in order to apply them in companies.
Studying with us will give you an insight into holistic, customer-oriented solutions with the help of modern IT platforms.
Save the date: On September 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the rector will welcome our first-semester students in the audimax of Pforzheim University!
Our tailor-made study program combines business administration and applied computer science. You will learn everything you need for a successful professional future as a business IT specialist:
- Think and act responsibly as an entrepreneur.
- Understanding business contexts and designing digital solutions!
- Developing and optimizing business processes (workflows) across the company and making them executable through information technology.
- Selecting, designing, and implementing modern information technology (such as mobile apps, cloud technology, and microservices).
In addition to fundamental business administration knowledge, which is taught within the Faculty of Economics and Law, you can expect a wide range of business informatics-specific subjects: In addition to business process management, transaction systems, e-commerce, and project management, there is user interface & experience design, data management, and information security. Software engineering, algorithms, and data structures are also included, as are IT management in companies and innovative, digital business models. An elective subject according to your own interests rounds off the profile, together with a seminar and case study course. For details, please refer to the module handbook for the Business Administration/Business Informatics major.
We use the ‘European eCompetence Framework’ to focus on professional success. It classifies relevant skills for business informatics and is linked to the European Qualifications Framework. This interdisciplinary program with a focus on business administration offers you flexible career options after graduation. Our graduates work as project managers, business analysts, enterprise architects, citizen developers, consultants, or trainers, for example. These professions are in high demand in practice and are above-average in terms of pay. Medium- and long-term prospects include job profiles such as Chief Digital Officer (CDO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and even Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In addition to comprehensive training in economics (based on the Pforzheim model), you will acquire specialist knowledge in the field of business informatics. Our focus is on:
- Engineering approaches to the development, design, and selection of information systems (software)
- Project management methods (classical, agile, and hybrid)
- Modeling and analysis of complex issues
- Digitization and optimization of existing processes
Business process management (business process engineering)
- Design of business processes and associated information systems
- Process modeling (e.g., with BPMN)
- Selection, customization, and implementation of information systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA)
- Software-supported process analysis (e.g., through process mining)
Software design and engineering
- Design and development of distributed information systems (e.g., object-oriented with Java)
- Design of human-computer interactions (user experience and usability)
- Modeling and analysis of complex data structures and databases (e.g., with UML, ERD, and PostgreSQL or Amazon DynamoDB)
- Design and implementation of modern web applications (progressive web apps, PWAs)
Typical course formats include lectures in German and English, computer exercises and tutorials, seminars, and case studies. Projects (usually in collaboration with companies) and a capstone course give you the opportunity to apply your new skills in an interdisciplinary and practical manner. Our elective modules also give you the opportunity to further deepen your knowledge in the main areas of the program.

We expect you to:
- want to work with information systems in a task-oriented manner,

Degree program: Business Administration / Business Informatics - Management & IT
Degree: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
Duration of study: 7 semesters
Internship semester: 5th semester
We only accept students for the winter semester. The registration deadline is July 31. In the first two semesters, you will learn important fundamentals (according to the Pforzheim model) and deepen your knowledge in the field of business informatics as you progress through the program.
Further information on the individual modules and the associated courses (lectures, exercises, seminars, and internships) can be found in our module handbook Modulhandbuch. On each course can be found in the respective syllabi Syllabi (E-Campus, login required). The syllabus for a course is a description that our lecturers currently issue for the respective semester. This gives students a good overview of the content and requirements of the courses in advance.
The formal framework for the program is regulated by the study and examination regulations (SPO). At Pforzheim University, these are divided into two main parts. The first part contains general regulations for the entire university. The second part refers to the course content of the degree programs. The SPO also defines the type of examination, the duration of the examination, and the relevant examination semester for the individual courses. Here you will find the currently valid SPO for our degree program:
- General section of the study and examination regulations Allgemeiner Teil Studien- und Prüfungsordnung
- Degree programs (starting in the 2024/25 winter semester) Studiengänge (ab Studienbeginn WS 2024/25) (includes all bachelor's degree programs)

Business informatics combines business management activities in companies (management) and computer science (IT). The discipline is driven by the optimization of operational processes. Business informatics specialists are constantly looking for ways to improve operational processes (business processes). These areas for improvement are identified using software (e.g., modeling tools or process mining techniques) and implemented with the help of software (e.g., cloud computing or microservice architectures).

As students and later as graduates of our program, you will be in demand as creative mediators and problem solvers in many companies and almost all areas of business! Your career prospects are characterized by a wide range of job opportunities, high salaries, and unparalleled variety. Here is a small selection from the extremely wide range of possibilities:

After completing your bachelor's degree, there are basically two paths you can take: enter the workforce or continue on to a master's program. Outstanding graduates have the opportunity to continue their academic career in the Master's program in Information Systems (M.Sc.). In addition, there is the option of a double degree in the master's program and a PhD program at the University of Ljubljana. Paths to a doctorate are also available. Take advantage of this opportunity to combine your passion for technology and business and contribute your innovative ideas and solutions to the world of tomorrow.
There are many good reasons to seek advice from an experienced university member. Whether before, during, or after your studies, we won't leave you on your own!
