To give our MBA International Management students an insight into the financial electives offered in the third semester, Professor Korbinian Eichner of Hochschule Pforzheim presented an enthusiastic overview of the finance electives including Applied Corporate Valuation and Mergers, Acquisitions, and Corporate Restructuring.
Prof. Eichner explained that his courses are focused on the application of corporate financial concepts to real world problems. While theory of core financial topics is necessary, Prof. Eichner stressed that it takes a hands-on approach in order to learn what is required in the job market. He further elaborated on the placement possibilities within the corporate finance job market – including, but not limited to industrial corporations, investment and commercial banks, investment funds, and consultancies. In fact, several alumni of Hochschule Pforzheim University have gone on to pursue a career in finance with companies such as Daimler, Bosch, Siemens, Porsche, Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Credit Suisse, Nomura, Royal Bank of Scotland, Berenberg, Unicredit, JPMorgan Chase, Commerzbank or LBBW.
After reviewing the content and topics of each course, Prof. Eichner described which skills students help on the job market and why finance might be an interesting placement possibility for graduate students. This includes a stable demand for skilled employees with the right technical skillset, along with multiple opportunities for career advancement, international job mobility, and a steep learning curve in a fast-paced environment.
Prof. Eichner then opened the floor for questions and discussion from the students. Due to the high number of questions directed at Prof. Eichner, it is apparent his insights sparked curiosity and interest from all who attended. Thank you, Professor Eichner, for your time, insights, and enthusiasm!
