News

Guest lecture by Govinda Ahuja, VINCOTECH, MBA Class of 2014

Pforzheim MBA alumnus from the class of 2014, Govinda Ahuja is currently working as a Strategic Business Development Manager at Vincotech at their headquarters near Munich. Vincotech is a market leader in power semiconductor modules. An affiliate of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, the company excels at developing and manufacturing high-quality electronic power components for motion control, renewable energy, and power supply markets. Vincotech has shown tremendous growth over the last few years, and Govinda revealed that the secret recipe to this success is a service concept called ‘Speed and Flexibility’ which has created a sustainable competitive advantage for the company.

Passionate about Marketing and Innovation Management

During his MBA studies, Govinda was passionate about marketing and innovation management. Being selective with his career choices have led him to his current position in Strategic Business Development, which allows him to leverage a variety of competencies across diverse functions. He describes his job as challenging as he has to learn about new markets, industries, and applications and keep abreast of their latest trends, opportunities, and disruptions. In his current role, he also gets the opportunity to report directly and learn from an industry veteran, Mr. Eckart Seitter, who serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing and also the Managing Director of the company.

From Engineering to Strategic Business Development

Govinda began his professional journey as an engineer after having received his Bachelor in Engineering from India and Master of Science from Germany. The MBA from HS Pforzheim paved his way into business roles in the high-tech space. He explained to students how he works with dynamic cross-functional teams wherein he has to challenge the organization often by stimulating a discussion to arrive at strategic recommendations and to achieve goals. He also has to encourage the team to think beyond their technical passion and to make decisions using their business acumen. This is what makes “the tasks of a business development role challenging, and that is exactly what makes it fun” for Govinda. He gave students some insights from the broad spectrum of market data he researches and elaborated on the process of how he uses these insights while making strategic recommendations to the company’s board. Hence, he appreciates the holistic education one receives from an MBA, because “you get a feel for everything, and these small learnings eventually someday find their way into the job.”

Understanding of the Culture and the System within German Companies

Getting an MBA at Pforzheim University was a decision Govinda will never regret. While studying in Pforzheim, he had fun exploring new areas, learning from his mistakes, and gaining practical work experience in various industries while pursuing internships and working student positions. Furthermore, he appreciated the exposure he got during company excursions which made him understand the culture and the system of functioning within German companies.
