Do you like ordering products from Amazon? If so, have you ever thought about how it might look like at the Amazon fulfillment centers? Our MBA first semester students had the chance to find that out. They were invited for a guided tour through the Amazon fulfilment center in Pforzheim, which opened in 2012 and is as big as 17 football pitches. From January to September about 1,000 employees are working there. In the peak time from October to December, when customers do their Christmas shopping, more than 500 additional workers are necessary to deliver the products just in time. Amazon was founded in 1995 by Jeff Bezos. Today there are 31 fulfilment centers in Europe.

Mr. Frédéric Penka, Senior Manager Operations, gave the students a guided tour through the logistic center. He showed the different areas, from the incoming goods through the storage and their packaging to shipment.

The students were also informed by Ms. Irina Stambolska, Recruitment Coordinator, Amazon Talent Program and Ms. Roberta D’Amore, Project Manager, Amazon Talent Program Recruiting about the job opportunities at Amazon. It is possible to apply for an internship as well as for the Amazon Pathway program, which is a special program for MBA, Masters and PhD graduates.
