Graduates of business, engineer and science bachelor studies interested in holistic environmental and sustainability assessments of products and production systems.
Environmental and sustainability assessments are tasks for research and development, production planning, communication, marketing and other functional areas of companies. Interdisciplinary expert knowledge and competence at the interface of management, engineering, and sustainability are essential requirements in this field. Therefore, graduates of this master program start their careers in various functions within medium-sized and larger corporations, consultancies, research organisations or NGOs.
The focus areas of this master´s degree are life cycle thinking and applied industrial ecology approaches. This includes production- and product-related material and energy flow analyses and cost assessments, life cycle assessments (incl. social LCA, carbon and water footprints, organizational LCA, cradle to cradle, etc.), as well as the interfaces of these methods to production and process engineering, corporate social responsibility, energy systems and lean production. Students learn to apply standards, methods, data banks, software tools and scientific competences. During their studies students get in touch with companies within cooperation projects and case studies. Students are encouraged to deepen specific interests and to build up a special profile in single areas e.g. lean, energy or innovation and technology management.
