Elena Scolnaia earned her Ph.D. in 2019 from Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In her dissertation, she examined global research and development networks of multinational corporations and their strategic management.

Prior to her appointment at Pforzheim University, she held various positions in industry and research. From 2011 to 2020, she worked at Daimler Truck AG in the areas of strategy development for research and development as well as strategic product planning. She then took on a project management role for fuel cell systems at cellcentric GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture between Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group.
