Application Training Workshop

News

As part of the MBA program’s career development series, students recently took part in the workshop “Your Guide to Crafting a Winning German CV & Cover Letter”. The session offered practical guidance on how to prepare strong, professional application documents for the German job market.
The workshop began with a glimpse into the daily life of a human resources manager, showing how recruiters handle hundreds of applications for open positions and the importance of making a great first impression. This story helped students understand that a clear, concise, and well-structured application can truly stand out.
Participants explored the key components of a German application package — the cover letter (Anschreiben), CV (Lebenslauf), and appendix (Anhang) — and learned how to structure their CVs in reverse-chronological order, highlighting education, experience, and skills effectively. Design and layout tips, such as using professional fonts, photos and a clean two-page format, were also discussed.
The trainer shared helpful dos and don’ts, including tailoring each application to the job description, avoiding unreadable graphics that an application training system (ATS) might not interpret correctly , and proofreading carefully before submission. The session ended with practical advice on writing a strong cover letter — keeping it short, focused, and authentic.
Overall, the workshop gave students useful tools and insights to build confident, culturally appropriate applications for future career opportunities in Germany.
