Katja Tiltscher talked on ‘How to apply to a German company’

The MBA classroom was packed to its capacity with our first and third semester students eagerly waiting for Ms Katja Tiltscher’s guest talk on ‘How to apply to a German company.’ Ms. Tiltscher is an alumna oft Pforzheim University and has a broad HR expertise with 11 years HR experience also in management positions in reputed companies like Nestle Food and Voith.

A GOOD APPLICATION

Ms Tiltscher’s was here to help our MBA students gain a deeper understanding about the important elements that make a successful job application for jobs in Germany. She started her presentation by elaborating on the fundamentals of a good application – Application letter, Curriculum Vitae and References. She explained the intricacies of drafting an interesting and strong application letter and the way to make its reader curious to know more about the applicant. Then she explained what she considers to be ‘the heart’ of an application, i.e. the applicant’s CV. She thoroughly explained the CV’s format, content and structure, and informed about how to highlight all the things that are essential for the company’s decision making. Finally, she talked about the importance of having references that can help add credibility to one’s job application and increase the chances of being selected for the job.

APPLICATION PROCESS & THE GERMAN LABOR MARKET

Throughout her presentation, the students were highly curious and intrigued about understanding the application process and Ms Tiltscher was pleased to sense the enthusiasm in them. She emphasized that as an HR manager, she would advise all the students to work hard on their MBA program and complete it with flying colours. She also gave pointers that were specific to the German labor market and it was highly insightful and interesting for the students to be made aware of these points that have the potential to boost their application exponentially.

Towards the end of her presentation, Ms Tiltscher talked about the application process in detail and made the students aware of the things to expect in a typical application process in a German company. She also talked about important points to keep in mind during the final and often most important stage of the application i.e. interviews.

Pforzheim Business School will be organizing mock interviews with the HR personnel of leading companies in February next year.
